Florida man Jeremy Dewitte has spent over 20 years pretending to be a police officer. His police impersonations started in the late 1990s. By 2001, he was driving a car he had modified to look like an unmarked police vehicle, complete with flashing lights and a two-way radio.

In 2005, Dewitte was convicted of lewd and lascivious battery on a minor and sentenced to a year in prison. After his release, he was required to register as a sex offender — a rule he frequently ignored. Violating this, along with breaking his probation, led to another prison sentence in 2009, this time for four years.

After his conviction, Dewitte started Metro-State Special Services, a company that performed escort funeral processions in Florida. But Dewitte treated it like a real police force.

He and his employees wore uniforms similar to those of real officers, drove vehicles that looked like police cruisers, and performed actions reserved…
