If you’re a true crime buff like me, you are familiar with stupid criminal stories such as BTK and his floppy disk, Derek Medina and his Facebook post, or Richard Ramirez’s rare tennis shoes.

Add another one to that list.

This criminal, specifically murderer, got caught by an entirely different footprint: his internet footprint.

Maury Troy Travis, an elusive serial killer from Ferguson, Missouri, foolishly mailed a map to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch which led them to the body of one of his 17 victims. The map was traced back to his computer.

Travis committed his atrocities inside his Ferguson home. He claimed he took the lives of 17 women, but only 12 could ever be proven. Travis was quiet and unassuming. His neighbors said he never caused any problems. As we have all too…
