Christina Grimmie was a rising star, known for her incredible YouTube covers and success on the competitive singing show, The Voice. At just 22 years old, she already had a huge and loyal fanbase. She seemed destined for international fame.

But in 2016, a crazed fan approached her at a meet-and-greet where he shot the young singer to death.

On June 10, 2016, Christina had just finished performing as the opening act for the band Before You Exit at Plaza Live in Orlando. As she often did, Christina stayed later to meet fans, sign autographs, and take pictures. One of those fans was Kevin James Loibl, a 27-year-old man who had become dangerously infatuated with her.

Without warning, Loibl pulled out a gun and shot her. Christina’s brother wrestled with the shooter, trying to unarm him, but Loibl backed up against the wall, putting a bullet into his own head.
