When 21-year-old Heather Quan was shot and killed, naturally her boyfriend was taken to the police station for questioning. However, what happens when the person being questioned as the suspect is actually just a victim?

Such was the case for Ryan Waller.

In December of 2006, Heather was fatally shot and her boyfriend, Ryan Waller, was severely injured in their apartment in Phoenix, Arizona. Although he had been shot in the face, Ryan was still taken into police custody for questioning and charged with murder.

It was later discovered that Ryan was also a victim of crime. Two men, Richie Carver and his father Larry, were the true perpetrators. The Carvers had broken into the apartment and shot Heather and Ryan, leaving them both for dead.

But Ryan wasn’t dead.

When the truth eventually surfaced, the Carvers were found guilty of Heather’s murder.
