It all started on May 19, 1992, when a 17-year-old girl named Amy Fisher rang the doorbell and shot Joey Buttafuoco’s wife Mary Jo in the face at her home in Long Island, New York.
That girl was Buttafuoco’s secret girlfriend. He was 35 at the time.
While he was sentenced to six months for statutory rape, and she was charged with attempted murder, Buttafuoco’s wife, Mary Jo, survived the ordeal and stayed with her husband, despite her better judgment.
Eventually, the couple got divorced in 2003 after he was arrested for soliciting an undercover cop. However, the scandalous life of Joey Buttafuoco didn’t end there.
Insurance fraud, pornographic movies, and a very public rekindling with his past lover thrust him back into the media spotlight… and he seemed to be enjoying the attention.
