Cold Case Victim Found Stabbed to Death After Mysterious Caller Says, “Your Sister’s Dead!”
DNA identified Sharon Abbott Lane, but now we have to find her killer.
In the winter of 1993, the skeletal remains of a young woman were discovered protruding from a shallow grave. Her belongings accompanied her, including her deteriorated clothing, jewelry, a red hair comb, and a yellow barrette. She had been stabbed in the torso and neck. The wounds on her back indicated that the attack came from behind.
In a circular, wooded area of Centreville, Virginia, land surveyors were preparing to convert the neighborhood into a new subdivision. That’s when she was found buried underneath the foliage. The medical examiner estimated that the woman had been dead anywhere from one to six years by the time her remains were found.
The victim was determined to be between 29 and 38 years old and at a shorter stature of 5' to 5'3. She was wearing sandals, so it is assumed that she died in warmer weather, and near the gravesite was a quarter which was dated 1980.
Efforts were made over the years to identify this woman without any success. Her story was featured on prominent true crime television shows, but unfortunately, no leads were produced. As so many of these discoveries…
