On the 6th of December 2014 police in Courtland, Mississippi responded to a call about a vehicle on fire down Herron Road. As they got closer, they could see a young woman standing in the middle of the road near the car. She was on fire.

She was reaching out to them crying, “Help me. Help me.”

Accelerant had been poured all over her. She had a flammable liquid down her throat and up her nose. Ninety-eight percent of her body was burned, so it came as a surprise to firefighters that she was able to walk when they arrived.

The victim was 19-year-old Jessica Chambers. Jessica was airlifted to a Memphis hospital where she passed away the very next day. In her last moments, her mother sat beside her and told her if it was too painful, she can let go.

Minutes later, Jessica stopped breathing.

When she was found, Jessica had on only her underwear. She was barely able to communicate with first responders, but she was able to answer a few of their questions. When asked who did this to her, she said what sounded like “Eric” or “Derrick.” Investigators were unable to find anyone by that name…
