It’s not often we have every piece of the puzzle to a cold case except one: the responsible party. We have the evidence, the proof, and the credible witnesses on stand-by, and yet, we lack the guilty to prosecute and bring to full justice. What is more frustrating… not knowing what happened or not being able to do anything about it?

Such is the case for two-year-old Atcel “Aztel” Olmedo; a child whose memory existed only in shrouded mystery for years, until an unlikely hero came along and brought his case back to life.

Karina Olmedo remembers her brother and visited his grave on his 13th birthday, leaving him gifts he would have liked to have as a child. Atzel died before he turned three years old. His small body was found concealed in a blue drawstring laundry bag on the side of a road in DuPage County, Illinois.

His headstone reads: Atcel Olmedo. Son. Unknown. But not forgotten.

Atcel “Atzel” Olmedo was born on the 5th of November 2002 in Mexico. Karina remembers her little brother’s big smile and his love for playing in the park. Karina did not accompany her mother to the U.S. but said Atzel left home sometime between 2004 and 2005, while she stayed behind…
