A Sweet Soul Gone in an Instant: Who Murdered Ashley?
Realtor Ashley Okland was found murdered inside a townhome during an open house, and police are still searching for her killer.
In the bustling suburb of West Des Moines, Iowa, Ashley Okland lived with her partner, Eric, and the couple’s new puppy, Indi. Ashley was an ambitious real estate agent at Iowa Realty, who loved spending time with family and friends and making each person in her life feel special.
She enjoyed going to concerts, golfing, and volunteering for Big Brothers Big Sisters of America. Ashley had a big heart and a passion for helping children from all walks of life.
On April 8, 2011, Ashley was hosting an open house event at Stone Creek Villas in West Des Moines. The 27-year-old arrived early that day to prepare the townhouse for prospective buyers.
Just before 2:00 p.m., a woman heard a commotion coming from the model townhouse at 558 Stone Creek Court. Driven by her curiosity, she went inside. There she found Ashley lying motionless on the floor. She was covered in blood.
The young realtor had been shot twice. Once in the face and once in the chest. Strangely absent was any trace of the person responsible for the crime.
